Synopsis:
When France passes a law banning religious symbols in schools, 14-year-old Mariam is thrown into an identity crisis. French born to Arab parents, Mariam begins to discover her Muslim identity when she is forced to choose between wearing her hijab and going to school. A portrait of a teenage girl on a fierce search for herself, this film asks viewers to consider the complicated experience of Muslim women living in the west.
Mariam is presented along with the Inspirit Foundation CHANGE LEADER series! The goal of the Inspirit Foundation is to create a more inclusive Canada by celebrating and supporting our differences. Young diverse change leaders from across Canada share their experiences with racism, prejudice and creating change in short 1-minute interviews.
